Thrift Stores 8/24/99. They all have a few books and some kitchen stuff unless notes. The small ones may have limited schedules, always check for days and hours. These are alphabetical.

Alpine Attic Thrift Shop, 1813 West Lomita Blvd, Lomita. North side, few buildings west of Western.

Capt'n Cook's Japanese Antiques, 1018 S. PCH, Redondo Beach, CA, 310-540-4704. Open seven days, noon-5 p.m. Haven't been, ad says "thrift store items," but doesn't mention books. 8/34/99.

Coast Thrift Shoppe, 4124 Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Torrance. South side of PCH, east of Anza, back from the street. Accross the driveway from SUITMAX. Look for a building with a long, ground-level porch. Half price sale 5/25 thru 5/29/99, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Discount Center, 23820 S. Avalon Blvd., Carson. Northeast corner at Sepulveda.

Goodwill www.goodwill.org. Six in the South Bay and six others in area.

Hospice Thrift Avenue, 2583 PCH, Torrance. It's in the large Rolling Hills Plaza on the north east corner of PCH and Crenshaw Blvd. It's a large plaza, better to call for directions. Or, try a few doors east of what was Ralphs*. The Ralphs spot will become a Whole Foods soon. A few times a year they do have 50% off sales; the next one is 5/20/99*.

House of Yahweh, 2316 Artesia Blvd., Redondo Beach. Check Goodwill and Salvation Army listings for three stores within two blocks. Expanded the clothing section.

Little Company of Mary Auxiliary Thrift Shop, 3737 Torrance Blvd., Suite 101, Torrance. Northeast corner of Hawthorne & Torrance Blvd's, southeast corner of that corner.

The Repeat Boutique, 1272 Sartori Ave, Torrance. Short days & hours.

Salvation Army www.salvationarmy.org. At least four in South Bay and seven others in area. For the last few years, I think they overcharge for books.

The Thrift Store that was in old-town Torrance has moved in with an existing, smaller thrift store at 1014 W. Anahein St., Wilmington. That's at the south west corner of Anahein St. and Wilmington Ave., just east of the 110 freeway.

More as time allows. But, you have to promise not to buy my favorite books.

++ Try the to-go breakfast special at Gus Burger on that corner, but only if the cook who likes to make hash browns is cooking. It's a lot of breakfast, with left-overs for lunch, for about $2.50. But, I haven't tried it for a year or more.
